Tips to budget seasonal decorations
from: SelfHomeImprovement.comIt's not everyone that can afford the entire refurbishment of a home so as to go with a seasonal theme, for practical or aesthetic needs. But it's important to have change within the home and syncing the change to occur with seasons is the most ideal way to go about doing this. Here are a few tips to sorting out your home decorations seasonally without dipping too far into the bank.
First off, you have to identify the most obvious areas of the home that attract the most attention. Once you have these areas scoped out, you have to be able to identify what you can do with these areas. Let's look at each of the primary home areas and see where changes may be made in a cost effective manner.
The living room is the first place you'd want to make changes that reflect the change in season. By the rule of thumb, stick to dark colors and shades during the cooler seasons and brighter and lighter colors and shades during the warmer months. In general, this will help with the heat absorption and light dissipation about the room. During the cooler months, keep the furniture closer together so that they're away from the walls and more intimately placed. During the warmer months, push furniture as far back as possible enlarging the living space and allowing the flow of air through the space. Change curtains and throws appropriately (by color and fabric).
The bedrooms would be the next space where changes would be appropriate according to the season. Here it would be most ideal to just replace the curtains (if this is affordable). If the curtains are no being swapped, then it would be ideal to tie them back during summer so that the maximum airflow is allowed. During the winter, to make the bed more inviting and comfortable, quilted material should be placed under the mattress (but under the sheets). Also, layer the sheets and fold these back one at a time to provide a wave effect. With the darkest layers on top, this method of décor is also practical since layers offer a greater amount of heat retention.
Kitchen and dining areas should receive a bit of a facelift too. Simply use lighter colors for linen during the warm months and darker shades for the cooler months. Clearing out the clutter also makes for a cleaner space during the summer when windows are expected to be open and dust would gather at a more rapid pace. To make dusting easier during the warmer months, stow non-essential items away.
The exterior of the home could also do with decorations according to the season. Simple effects like handmade wreaths decorated with flowers during the summer, and cotton, fern or pine cones during the winter make for an attractive door decoration.
