This is usually because you have been a bit disorganized when taking up the task. Home decoration requires a very structured and organized approach for it to be exciting and controlled at the same time. And, when it's done, it should be done right the first time around; otherwise both time and money may be spent in fixing a mistake. Here are a few points on how to organize yourself, before decorating.
First you have to go about identifying the areas of the home that require the decoration. Normally you would have a look at the bedrooms, living room, dining area, kitchen and the bathrooms to figure this out. Take a look at the walls, ceilings, the light fixtures, the electrical boards, upholstered furniture, curtains and all linen. Carry around a notebook and make out a list of all the items you want to effect a change to.
Once you have a list of changes you require, decide on themes that you want. These could be just about anything, from simple color themes to themes that depict something. Decide on whether you want to extend the theme to the whole house or give each room a separate theme (while maintaining some form of consistency). Once you have this in place, go back to your list and see, what you can use from what's available presently and decide on what you will have to purchase.
Next, figure out how much you're willing to spend and make out a budget (including any labor that you may have to hire for specific jobs). Rethink or cross out the items that don't make your budget and alter your theme so that you are able to organize your budget (always try to tighten your budget by at least twenty percent to allow for budget overshoots). Once you have this in place, organize your calendar so that you can decide on when to undertake you're re-modeling, which days to accomplish what work and when you're going to undertake all the materials purchase. If you're hiring an external consultant or labor, these must be booked well in advance. If you're using external labor, it would be prudent to buffer in extra time, since sometimes delays are unavoidable.
Finally, when you have everything in place, make your bookings with consultants and labor, go out and make your purchases (hunt down the best products at the cheapest prices). The fun starts when you begin pulling it all in together. As far as possible, stick to the date-work plan you've come up with but at times you would have to digress from this, so prepare for utilizing your buffered time.
