A brush and a can of paint that is not all it takes. More so, you can often get the job done faster if you know what types of tools to use to make it happen.
Brushes: Paintbrushes are still necessary, even if you plan to do most of your painting with other tools. The brush can do the trim work far better and it allows you more control over your movements. Look for a two inch angular brush for most projects. Synthetic brushes are an excellent buy, but only if you buy a middle of the road or better quality. Cheap brushes lose their bristles.
Paint Rollers: Rollers are perhaps the best investment you can make for most paint jobs, including walls, ceilings and floors. If there is a large place that needs to be painted, rollers are a good fit. Be sure you choose one that has a steel frame, a metal cage, and the ability to hold an extension pole (the bottom should be threaded to handle the extension.) When choosing the actual cover, use a shorter nap for interior paint jobs that need to be smooth. A longer name works better for exterior painting, especially for textured walls and ceilings.
Pad Applicators: This tool is a must have for all of the edging work you will do. They are flat and they do not splatter or drip paint. They are very flexible to use and that means they can get into all of those tight groves easily. They also do not leave a lot of texture in the finished coat, which helps to make the paint blend in with the rest of the paint job.
In most paint jobs, you will need all three of these applicators. There are times when the job is much larger, though. For example, if you are painting the exterior of your home, a roller is still going to take forever. In these instances, you may want to use a paint sprayer, which will gently spray the paint onto the wall. They are easy to use and completely amazing in terms of speed.
Each of these paint applicators are an important part of the paint job you will do. Invest in quality tools and the job is faster and looks better.
