Laminate Flooring And The Floating Floor System

from: SelfHomeImprovement.com

When you begin to shop for laminate flooring, you will find that many of the manufacturers now offer something called a floating floor system. This is the method that allows you to install the flooring securely but without using any type of actual glue or nails to do so. In many ways, it is the fastest, easiest way to install laminate, assuming that you follow the rules and install it properly. You will find that many providers are now offering this product, but not all laminates are available like this. You may not find the exact product you are after in this form.

Laminate flooring that does offer the floating floor system has a very unique process to it. Let's take a look at a step by step process of how it goes in.

After ensuring the floor is flat and level, and then working to ensure it is clean, you will lay down an underlayment, which is usually just a sheet of padded plastic that helps to buffer the floor and the laminate.

Once in place, you can take each strip of laminate flooring and lay it down, flush against the wall. The first row is the easiest. When you get to the end, you simply cut to fit snuggly against the wall.

The second row is a bit more challenging. Notice how the laminate fits together. It slides onto the piece that is already located on the floor through a tongue and groove method. It is fairly easy to put in place, after you learn how to snap them in place.

Then, you move on to the next piece. Each piece connects at the top and sides with the pieces next to it. You continue through the room, cutting as needed and fitting each piece into place.

The only stipulation is that you leave at least a few inches between the piece ends. For example, you want to ensure that the top row's seems do not match up with the next row's seems since this creates more strength and durability.

With the floating floor system, there is no need to use messy glue. You do not have to worry about any type of nails,, either. More so, should you need to stop and go back to fix a mistake or to change out a piece of wood, you can do that without having to replace the entire flooring.

You may not be able to use a floating floor system in all areas of your home. Be sure to check if the product can be used in basements. If you will place it in a location that may cause it to get very wet, also check to ensure the wood can be used in that location.
